Safety--Web-logoSafety is OSC’s number one priority, driving every aspect of our operations. No compromise is made when it comes to safety. OSC’s Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) philosophy is simple: Safety is a 24/7 behavior. To achieve our safety goal, OSC utilizes a variation of the Behavior Science Technology (BST) approach to safety. The system is a behavior-based program that identifies the point where our employees interact with the equipment, facilities and processes of the job as the point where exposure to injury occurs. OSC’s safety approach emphasizes that injuries occur when numerous factors combine such as the environment, equipment and employee attitudes.

Our Methods

OSC’s safety department has extensive experience in developing and managing health and safety programs, training programs and field operations for both public and private clients. Our Safety Team analyzes every worksite for hazards. OSC’s Management and Corporate Safety Director monitors every project closely, but the true strength of our approach to safety is the active involvement and participation of every employee on every job site.

OSC believes that incidents or accidents are caused and, therefore, can be prevented.  The safety and health of all individuals involved in our operations, and the protection of client and company assets and the environment, are every employee’s responsibility; making “Safety First” not just a tag line, but the way we approach every task, every day.

Our outstanding commitment to safety has been recognized by our customers and organizations and is substantiated by OSC‘s low recordable and incident rates as reflected in our Experience Modification Rate. To perform work in the field, OSC employees must complete initial and refresher HSE training. All employees working on a new job site are required to complete “site specific” training addressing hazards unique to that site and to participate in onsite Daily Toolbox Meetings. Prior to mobilization, and throughout the project, Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) are conducted at every site establishing any potential risks that could arise. An OSC Site Health and Safety Officer (SHSO) reviews JHA’s with all onsite employees and subcontractors at the pre-construction meeting and as revisions develop.
Each day, prior to work beginning, every employee must complete a Safety Task Analysis Card (STAC) that identifies the potential hazards for the tasks for that job site. The STAC cards are reviewed by the SHSO at the Daily Toolbox Safety Meetings. These cards are designed to be an ongoing learning tool. By breaking jobs into small parts, workers can learn to identify hazards and eliminate or control them.
To ensure OSC’s safety standards are being met onsite, weekly job site audits are conducted and documented by the SHSO, and the results of these audits are discussed with the work site team and used as a learning tool for safety improvement.
